50 years have passed since the start of the chorus. 50 years!
I’ve been reflecting on my own time with the Maple Leaf Singers. 17 years ago I joined the chorus. 17 years – almost ½ of my life. At this point, I don’t know what I would do without this amazing group. We are a community. Singing and performing together aside, we support each other, celebrate accomplishments together, and go through the trials and tribulations of life together. We are a family.
In my daily life, I am a chef. At times I was working 12 hour days, 6 and 7 days a week. It’s been a struggle for me to find a life balance working in this industry. The Maple Leaf Singers helps me this. With every rehearsal and show, I find peace and stress relief. I find harmony and balance in my life through the music. I find comfort and compassion through the members of the chorus.
I’ve been asked how I got started with the Maple Leaf Singers. Back in 1999, my sister answered an ad in the North Shore News for a choir that was looking for new members. She auditioned, and was accepted as a soprano. She invited me to come and see her sing at Massey Theatre for her first spring show. I’m so glad I went. The show was amazing. It was entertaining and fun. Not only that, but the chorus looked like they were having a great time too! After watching my first Maple Leaf Singers performance, I had no choice but to join. Almost 20 years later, I’m thankful every day that I found this incredible group.
We are always looking for new members to join our family. Open auditions are August 25th between 10am and 4pm. For more information, email joinus@mapleleafsinger.com or call Glenora at 778-245-4445. You can also find more information at http://www.mapleleafsingers.com/join-us/
